| GENERAL LEAVE: Each teacher shall be entitled to be
absent from work for a total of thirteen (13) days each year without
loss of compensation for the following purposes:
- personal illness of the certified employee.
- illness or quarantine of a member of the certified employee's
"immediate" family, which shall be defined as the certified
employee's spouse, children, parents, and parents-in-law, or for
family members residing in the teacher's household.
- medical or dental appointments.
- the transaction of personal business and/or the conduct of
personal or civic affairs.
Use of General leave days shall be subject to the following
restrictions:
- When leave is taken for any of the reasons set forth in items
2,3, or 4 above and can be anticipated, the teachers shall submit to
the superintendent a written
statement describing the reason and necessity for the
absence, (IC 20-6.1-5-8), by way of the building principal at least
one day prior to such leave. The teacher will subsequently be
notified of the approval or disapproval of such leave request.
- If the leave is taken on a regular contract day immediately
before or after a school vacation, the teacher must provide a
statement documenting the emergency need for such leave.
General Leave shall not be used to extend a school vacation.
- A teacher who is absent for five (5) school days in any
school year may be required to produce a medical statement after the
fifth (5th) day of absence at the discretion of the Superintendent.
- Each employee must exhaust all but one day on General leave
before using any of the employee's accumulated sick leave.
- General leave days shall be charged full or half day units.
