Bradford Woods

Our fifth grade students will be headed to Bradford Woods on May 19 – May 21st.  The cost of the trip is $60.  This amount must be paid in full by Friday, May 14th.  Due to the tough financial times Central Elementary will NOT be able to assist students in paying for this trip.  You don’t have to pay this amount in one lump sum.  You can send money in each day or every week up until May 14th.  Please watch for more information about Bradford Woods to be coming home with your child in the next few days.

“Four to Soar”

These are the four school-wide rules that the Central Elementary staff created and we expect ALL students to follow.  Please read over these with your child and remind them to follow them each and every day!

  1. I will listen
  2. I will follow directions.
  3. I will treat everyone and everything with dignity and respect.
  4. I will do my personal best in all that I do.

MSD OF MARTINSVILLE ELEMENTARY ABSENCES AND TARDIES GUIDELINES

Attendance:

Attendance helps determine whether a school meets A.Y.P. (Adequate Yearly Progress).  As a parent, there is little you can do about an illness or accident.  However, we ask that you try to schedule family vacations, medical and dental appointments, or other activities so they don’t interfere with your child’s attendance.  Classroom instruction and performance suffer greatly when your child is not at school.  We now have an automated calling system that will call you if your child is marked as having an unexcused absence.  Please make sure you call the school or send in a note if your child is absent.  Please call before 9:30 (765-342-6611)

Please note the following guidelines for elementary attendance.

Two-Hour Delay Schedule

If we would have inclement weather and need to have a two-hour delay, we will follow the schedule below:

  •             First bell rings at 10:50

  •             Tardy bell rings at 11:00

  •             A.M. Kindergarten: 11:00 – 12:30

  •             P.M. Kindergarten: 1:50 – 3:20

There is no reason for your child to come to school before 10:50 on these days because breakfast will NOT be served!

Kroger Cards:

We will have Kroger Cards for sale at our Family Night this year.  These cards will cost $5.00 and come preloaded with $5.00 to spend.  These cards are reloadable and we get 3% of ever dollar spent from these cards!  Please consider purchasing one and then keep reloading it!

Ongoing Fundraisers:

Our school is collecting Campbell Soup Labels, Coke Bottle Tops, Pop Tabs, and Box Tops again this year.  Please send them in whenever you’d like throughout the school year.

Physical Education:

Our students have P.E. on every Wednesday and Friday during the school year.  Please make sure your child wears athletic shoes on these days!

PTO

Our final P.T.O. meeting for the school year will be held this Thursday, May 6th at 3:30 P.M.  We hope to see you there!

Important Paperwork

In order to follow court orders concerning custody and guardianship issues, we must have a current copy of all court decrees, on file, at the school.   Please make sure you keep us up-to-date with these documents and please send any new information of changes (including address or phone numbers) to Mr. Jochim or Mrs. Gabehart.

LUNCH ACCOUNT:

Again this year, everyone has a family lunch account.  Money may be added to this account at any time, at any building where your children go to school.  If any of your children eat lunch, the amount of that lunch is taken from your family account.

Please make every effort to keep enough money in your account to pay for your child’s lunch each day.  If they do not go into the “red” on the family account it helps us all.

If you are paying weekly on your child’s account, please try to send in the check on Mondays.  This lets us get the paper work done right off the bat.

If you have questions regarding your account, please call the school or Food Service Dept. at 349-4452.

School Website:

We are in the process of up-dating Central School’s website.  We need to add some new teachers and get some of the dates on the calendar up-dated.  If you would like to visit our website please go to:

Raquel Zike, our Technology person, keeps our website up to date and does a wonderful job.  If you think there is something that needs to be added to the website, please e-mail me and let me know.  Mr. Jochim

School Clothing:

COLD WEATHER

As the days begin to get cooler and fall weather sets in, please be sure that your child is wearing appropriate clothing for the weather.  We will try to have our students outside on every day possible, but they need to be dressed appropriately.  Please help us with this situation because we don’t want to have to keep students in for not wearing proper clothing.

Unfortunately, winter is quickly approaching and this means a drastic change in weather.  Weather permitting; students will go outside for lunch recess.  Please make sure your child is dressed properly.  If your child fails to dress properly they will have to stay inside during recess.

The decision on weather or not a child is dress appropriately will be left up to Mr. Jochim

Meningococcal Disease

Indiana State Law IC 20-30-5-18, July 1, 2005 requires that schools inform parent/guardians, and students of the causes, symptoms, and spread of meningococcal/meningitis disease.  Following is information regarding meningococcal/meningitis disease: Causes-usually from a viral or bacterial infection.  Symptoms-high fever, headache, stiff neck, rash with some types, nausea, vomiting, discomfort looking into bright lights, confusion, sleepiness.  Spread of disease-some forms of bacterial meningitis are contagious through the exchange of respiratory and throat secretions (i.e. coughing and sneezing).  Fortunately, none of the bacteria that cause meningitis are as contagious as conditions like the common cold or the flu, and they are not spread by casual contact by simply breathing the air where a person with meningitis has been.  Immunizations are available for some causes of meningitis.  Additional information can be obtained from your health care provider, the websites given below, the health department, and the school’s website.
