Spelling Changes

My approach to spelling has changed somewhat this year.  I am following a program that allows me to more specifically determine a child’s spelling level.  After administering a diagnostic test, I was able to group students by their needs in spelling.  I will be running 4 tests to meet these needs.  They are simply called Levels 1, 2, 3, & 4.  The spelling list link on our web site will reflect this change.  Our pretest will still be given on Mondays with the students being tested on only the words missed on Fridays.

Reading and Math Logs begin this week.  They will be due each Monday.

Flat Stanley Visits Indiana!

After reading the book, Flat Stanley, students in Room 22 will be sending their own Stanley to friends and family throughout Indiana.  In the book, Stanley is flattened by a bulletin board that falls on his bed.  When Stanley’s parents can’t afford an airplane or train ticket for Stanley to visit a friend in California, they decide to send him in the mail.  A note about this project was sent home last Friday.   We can’t wait to send our Stanleys out on their own adventures!

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks to those of you who have returned all the school documents.  I know there was a bunch!  If you have not, please do so as soon as possible.
Text Box:  Agenda Book
As you know, the agenda book has replaced our Poston Pillars in 4th grade this year.  Thanks to all parents who have been reviewing the agenda daily.  If you want to sign daily, that’s great.  My requirement is a weekly signature on Fridays for me to see on Monday morning.  However, there may be notes during the week you will want to see.  I want to make it as easy for you as possible while still maintaining the effectiveness as a communication tool.  My hope is for students to write comments about their day at the end of each day, time permitting, so that they become more reflective of their learning.  I hope to comment often as well about the positives I see in your children and I hope less often about any problems.
