The counseling department serves as the liaison between parents and students and the special services department. Special services include help for students with learning disabilities, speech and hearing difficulties, the need for vocational rehabilitation, and emotional difficulties. Special services conferences and appointments are made through North School. Website link: http://msdadmin.scican.net/nfs/index.htm

The counseling department maintains and distributes information on current financial aid available in the form of scholarships, grants, and loans for post-secondary education. MHS has no control over or responsibility for which scholarships and loans are available to the students. Click on our Scholarships link to see scholarships for which we have information.
The guidance department will host a Financial Aid Night. At this meeting a college financial aid officer will assist students and parents in completing the student FAFSA form. FAFSA forms cannot be filed before January 1st and are due on or before March 10th.
The counseling department assists new students in enrolling
at MHS. The department also aids
currently enrolled students on an individual and on-going basis in developing
and maintaining an appropriate 4-year course plan to provide a foundation for
future career goals.
A College Fair is hosted by Indiana University in the fall.
At this time, students and parents are informed about the programs that
are available at universities, vocational schools, and through the military.
This informative event can be of great value not only to seniors, but to
all underclassmen as well.
The guidance department encourages each student to begin establishing career goals upon entry to high school. Students are given career interest surveys and have access to career information through the Internet at school or home. Career help is available from Darla Crone, 765-342-5571 ext. 4047. Once a student decides on a career objective, various websites can direct him/her to schools nationwide appropriate to that career objective. Parents are encouraged to be a part of this process.
