Mike Swartzentruber - Varsity Coach
Coach Swartzentruber enters his first year as Artesian coach after spending the previous 12 seasons at North Posey High School in southwestern Indiana. While at North Posey he accumulated 227 career wins and guided the Vikings to the 2005 and 2006 (2A) State Championships. North Posey's baseball program was noted for its fundamentals as well as an outstanding work ethic and hard-nosed attitude. These are the same characteristics that Coach Swartzentruber will work towards instilling within the Martinsville program.
Coach Swartzentruber comes to Martinsville along with his wife Misty, their son Griffen (6), and their daughter Ryan (3).
Lance Flener - Varsity Assistant Coach
Coach Flener joins the staff after having served as an assistant and feeder coach under Coach Swartzentruber at North Posey High School. Lance will bring an in-depth understanding of the type of program that will be implemented at Martinsville High School. His work ethic while an assistant at North Posey was unprecedented and that looks to continue while a member of the Artesian staff.
Corey Tinsley - Junior Varsity Coach
Coach Tinsley enters his first year at the helm of the
Artesian Junior Varsity squad after stops at Eminence,
Muncie Southside, and South Putnam. While a Varsity
assistant at Eminence, he helped guide the Eels to a
sectional championship in 2005, the first such title in
school history. Coach Tinsley has also seen coaching
success in a number of other sports. In 2008, He guided
the South Putnam Jr. High boys track and field team to a
school-best 10-1 record and the Putnam County
championship. He has also had successful basketball
coaching stints at Terre Haute South (freshman boys),
Muncie Southside (JV girls), and South Putnam (7th grade
boys).
A 1999 Eminence graduate, Coach Tinsley has been a
Morgan County resident most of his life. He comes to
Martinsville with his wife, Jessica, and their dog,
Reggie.
Ken Collier -
Freshman Coach
Coach Collier enters his 5th year in the Artesian baseball program and 3rd as freshman coach. He is also the head football coach of the the 7th grade West Artesians and the the 6th grade basketball team at West Middle School. He has a vested interest in developing the Artesian athelete to the best of his abilities with a good attitude and strong work ethic.
John Kerr - Assistant Coach
Coach Kerr brings his native Artesian spirit back to the MHS baseball team as he returns for his second year as assistant coach. Kerr, who graduated from MHS in 1984, has racked up years of experience as a player at both the high school and college level. Coach Kerr’s natural abilities to explain, teach, and demonstrate bring a unique perspective and value to the Martinsville Artesians. For the past 7 years he has been living in Martinsville and actively involved in coaching his two sons Johnny (13) and James (8) in both Little League and travel baseball.
Rob Downey - Assistant Coach
Coach Downey begins his first season as an Artesian assistant in 2009. Rob has been very active over the years in many capacities and brings a strong sense of what is needed within the community to make a strong baseball program from the bottom up. Coach Downey served as a Varsity Assistant the last two years at Mooresville and before that at Indian Creek. Coach Downey also has been a big part of youth and feeder programs in various sports within the Martinsville community over the years.
