MHS Captures 4th Straight TV School of the Year Title

The Martinsville High School Broadcasting Department had another strong showing March 8th at the Indiana Association of School Broadcaster's State Competition.  MHS captured their 4th straight TV School of the Year award at the annual event held at the University of Indianapolis, and students brought home a total of eight other awards including three firsts.  Hannah Lange won a first in the Show Open category, Scott Cain captured first in the Video In-Depth category and the Advanced Broadcasting class took home a first in the Video Magazine category for an episode of Inside MHS.  Cory Sutton won a second in the Music Video category, Kaitlyn Diller came in second in the Show Open category and the Advanced Broadcasting class captured three other seconds in the School Newscast, Corporate Video and Other Live Telecast categories.  The eight awards were the most ever captured by the broadcasting program at an IASB competition.  TV School of the Year is based on a point system for the awards won in each category at the competition.  Schools receive 3 points for a first, 2 points for a second and 1 point for a third.  Martinsville High School's 19 points beat out second place Ben Davis by 4 points.

Students in the Broadcasting Program produce MHS Rewind every two weeks.  The show has two parts:  an original short film and a newscast focusing on happenings at MHS.

Students also work on a variety of other projects throughout the school year including show opens, commercials, short films, music videos, stop motion and webisodes.

WREP is the MSD of Martinsville's digital low-powered TV station.  It broadcasts over the air on channel 15.1 and can be seen on Comcast cable channel 15 in Martinsville.
