Garden Club
Current brain research
indicates that people are smart in eight ways: linguistic, logical-mathematic, spatial,
body-kinesthetic, musical, intrapersonal, interpersonal, and naturalistic. The
teachers of the Martinsville school corporation in involved in ongoing training in how to
use these eight intelligence's in their teaching methods and how to encourage students to
use multiple intelligence's in their assignments. Poston Road has initiated a garden
team composed of 11 fourth and fifth graders. Gardening teaches us respect for the
environment, care for living things (including one another), working together as a team,
taking responsibility and the development of self-confidence. Gardening is a fun,
healthy activity that promotes the use of the multiple intelligence's. Karen Pacific
and Julie Heckart are the leaders.
