West Middle School National Junior Honor Society
The purpose of this organization shall be to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, to develop character, and to encourage citizenship in the students of our middle school.
Membership in local chapters is an honor bestowed upon a student. Selection for membership is by the Faculty Council and is based on outstanding scholarship, citizenship, character, leadership, and service. Once selected, members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities.
The National Junior Honor Society is an organization that honors outstanding students and provides activities to continue developing leadership and character in the middle school grades. To become a member, one must exceed normal expectations in five criteria areas: Scholarship, Leadership, Character, Citizenship, and Service. Membership is decided by a selection committee made up of teachers and is based upon information gathered and provided by students and teachers on the five areas mentioned above.
These students have qualified in the area of scholarship. Therefore, they have received a letter and application. During the week of March 8, 2010, Mrs. Shover, the NJHS Sponsor, will be meeting with all students who qualified for NJHS; during that meeting she will describe a NJHS member's involvement and responsibilities throughout the year. If the student is interested in participation, he/she needs to have the application form completed and returned to Mrs. Shover in room 28 by March 26, 2010.
