After-school Program

sponsored by the WMS Parent Council 

• The after-school program is sponsored by the WMS Parent Council and staffed by parent volunteers. The program is scheduled every time there is a home or away athletic event from 2:20P.M. to  whenever the coach or sponsor arrives at school. It provides students for a supervised and  safe place to be until it is time for them to get ready for their athletic event. It is not mandatory that student athletes participate in the after-school program, but students are not to be in the building unsupervised after school.*Coach Helms and Coach Hankins have mandated it for students participating in the football program. 

• The after-school program takes place in the cafeteria. Students are given a snack between 2:30P.M. and 3:00P.M. They are encouraged to do their homework at this time. The atmosphere is relaxed and students  have the opportunity to watch TV, listen to music, talk, and play games. Parent volunteers usually take the students, after most students are finished eating and doing homework, to the gym area to play basketball when the gym becomes available.

• The Parent Council is in need of adult volunteers to help staff the after-school program. Monetary or donations of food are welcome to help defray the cost providing snacks for the program.
