CHARACTER COUNTS!  is a nationally recognized model for character development that focuses student work on shared beliefs and values called the "Six Pillars of Character."  These pillars are Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. 

W.M.S. will be featuring the following character pillars listed below:

September: Responsibility

Examples of displaying the responsibility pillar include being accountable in word and deed and having a sense of duty to fulfill tasks with reliability, dependability, and commitment.

September Character Counts Winners are:

Kyla Castro, Caleb Coffey, Jacie Frederick, Kolton Ford, Katelyn Gardner, Megan Hallam, Kyah Hartloff,  Sydney Nuetzman, Cameron Owens, Jacie Pfaff, and Jenna Tackett

October: National 'Character Counts! Week' Events

Communities, businesses, schools, and families celebrate good character and the importance of teaching basic ethical values to youth.

October Character Counts Winners are:

Gary Baker, Sydney Downing, Riley Henson, Makayla Murray, Jayden Scholl, Heidi Silver, Hayley Taylor, and Brittney Woolbright

November: Citizenship

Examples of displaying the citizenship pillar include being law abiding and involved in service to school, community, and country.

 

November Character Counts Winners are:

Christina Alexander, Dakota Brandenburg, Gabe Ferran, Andrea Gadd, Sarah Holland, Megan Kehrt, Bethany Mackin,

John Moore, and Amanda Walker

 

December: Caring

Examples of displaying the caring pillar include showing understanding of others by treating them with kindness, compassion, generosity, and a forgiving spirit.

December Character Counts Winners are:

Myla Blondell, Amber Estep, Allison Griggs, Trenton Lodge, Hailey Mabie, Grace Morris, Alexandra Sichting,

Mikayla Smith, and Kodey Williams

 

January: Responsibility

Examples of displaying the responsibility pillar include being accountable in word and deed and having a sense of duty to fulfill tasks with reliability, dependability, and commitment.

Sydney Baar, Katelyn Broyer, Merideth Deckard, Peyton Edwards, Erin Gaskins, Kaitlyn Griffin, Andrew Marion, Rylee Kohr,

Ethan Runyan, and Emily Seger

 

 

February: Respect

 

Examples of displaying the respect pillar include showing high regard for authority, other people, self and country, treating others as you would want to be treated, and understanding that all people have value as human beings.

 

February Character Counts Winners are:

Brett Alvarado, Annabelle Bambery, Lindsey Downing, Bethany Gentry, Natalie Lowry, Lacie Roembke,

Jade Schubert, and Evan Wolfla.

March: Fairness

Examples of displaying the fairness pillar include practicing justice, equity, and equality, cooperating with one another, and recognizing the uniqueness and value of each individual within our diverse society.

March Character Counts Winners are:

 

 

April: Trustworthiness

Examples of displaying the trustworthiness pillar include telling the truth, admitting wrongdoing, being honest, acting with integrity, doing the right thing in the face of difficulty, and following your conscience instead of the crowd.

May: Good Character Year-End Celebration

Recognizing the positive outcomes of showing good character during the year.

June, July, August:  Show Your Character!

 Demonstrate good character in your family, neighborhood, and summer activities.

We appreciate all of these students’ efforts in helping to make West Middle School a great place where teachers can teach and students can learn.
