CHARACTER COUNTS! is a nationally recognized model for character development that focuses student work on shared beliefs and values called the "Six Pillars of Character." These pillars are Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. W.M.S. will be featuring the following character pillars listed below: September: Responsibility Examples of displaying the responsibility pillar include being accountable in word and deed and having a sense of duty to fulfill tasks with reliability, dependability, and commitment. September Character Counts Winners are: Bryanna Collier, Austin Wampner, Elizabeth Galloway, Cody Verhey, Lexi Sevigny, Ciara Prince, Dylan Rooker Maggi Bolin, Benjamin Anderson, Taylor Frye, and Miranda Cooper. October: National 'Character Counts! Week' Events Communities, businesses, schools, and families celebrate good character and the importance of teaching basic ethical values to youth. October Character Counts Winners are: Kaitlin Applegate, Dylan Clephane, Kaetlin Davis, Alexa Enoch, Isaac Duckworth, Emily Drulik, Kristen Mosteller, Deanna Stout, Benjamin Janssen, and Taylor Schubert. November: Citizenship Examples of displaying the citizenship pillar include being law abiding and involved in service to school, community, and country. November Character Counts Winners are: Timber Davis, Scott Fleener, Quentin Gill, Michael Alvarado, Danielle Massey, Cayleigh McNeeley, Brod Sasse, Taylor Jessee, Cheyenne Wigal, and Lily Brown. December: Caring Examples of displaying the caring pillar include showing understanding of others by treating them with kindness, compassion, generosity, and a forgiving spirit. December Character Counts Winners are: Faithful Fisher, Faith Arvin, Mary Guthrie, Bailley Owens, Neraka Hiser, Ethan Phillips, Kyle Anderson, Casey Parson, Andrea Cramer, and Rebecca Holmes. January: Responsibility Examples of displaying the responsibility pillar include being accountable in word and deed and having a sense of duty to fulfill tasks with reliability, dependability, and commitment. January Character Counts Winners are: Ethan Bolin, Kaylie Thacker, Brooke Verhey, Shyann jackson, Allison Simmons, Cheyenne Sharp, Sarah Stone, Amanda Fish, Samuel Muncy, and Terra McKinney. February: Respect Examples of displaying the respect pillar include showing high regard for authority, other people, self and country, treating others as you would want to be treated, and understanding that all people have value as human beings. February Character Counts Winners are: Allixandra Stout, Chandler Paul, Mahalah Wilson, Nick Tobeck, Leslie Wells, Baylor Payne, Kristen Broyer Skye Heiser, Desiree Wiser, and Tara Holland. March: Fairness Examples of displaying the fairness pillar include practicing justice, equity, and equality, cooperating with one another, and recognizing the uniqueness and value of each individual within our diverse society. April: Trustworthiness Examples of displaying the trustworthiness pillar include telling the truth, admitting wrongdoing, being honest, acting with integrity, doing the right thing in the face of difficulty, and following your conscience instead of the crowd. April Character Counts Winners are: May: Good Character Year-End Celebration Recognizing the positive outcomes of showing good character during the year. June, July, August: Show Your Character! Demonstrate good character in your family, neighborhood, and summer activities. We appreciate all of these students’ efforts in helping to make West Middle School a great place where teachers can teach and students can learn.
