FINAL EXAMS
West Middle School’s Final Examinations are underway. Friday,
May 21, English & Science exams were taken. On Monday, May 24,
Math & Social Studies exams will be given. Students should
prepare accordingly for these exams.
WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL TALENT SHOW
The annual West Middle School Talent Show is Friday,
May 21,
6:00 P.M., in the West Middle School Gymnasium. Admission is
$3.00 for adults and $1.00 for students.
8TH GRADE FRESHMEN ORIENTATION
MSD eighth grade students can pre-register for the Freshman
Orientation, which will be held on Friday, August 6, 2010, 12:30
– 4:00 P.M. Registration begins at 11:45 A.M. Registration
sheets were distributed today. Extra sheets are available in
the office.
SUMMER READING TUTORING - FREE
Ms. Jackie Richardson is offering free reading tutor services
during the summer months. Ms. Richardson saw her brother grow
up dyslexic and knows the struggle he endured. She believes
students should be given the opportunity to be confident
readers, which will enhance their learning abilities. Ms.
Richardson is the PEERS coordinator for the MSD of
Martinsville. If you are interested in your student being
tutored in Reading, please contact Ms. Richardson at

SUMMER ATHLETIC & ACTIVITY CAMPS
A list of various athletic camps and summer camps are
available on page 2, this edition of News & Notes. Parents and
students should review the list and choose a camp to participate
in this summer.
TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY SCHOLARS PROGRAM
The Twenty-First Century Scholars program helps sixth, seventh,
and eighth graders from moderate to low-income families pay for
college by providing a full tuition scholarship for four years
to Indiana colleges, Universities and trade schools. In exchange
for the scholarship, the middle school students promise to
graduate from high school, get a C average, and avoid using
illegal drugs, alcohol and committing a crime. Once in the
program, Scholars receive free support services such as college
visits, career workshops, summer programs and much more. To

SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM
The MSD of Martinsville Food Service Department will be
sponsoring five open sites, serving daily nutritious meals,
during the summer months, to all children 18 years and younger,

of charge. The meal must be eaten at the site, only one meal
per child will be allowed. This year, adults may purchase a

WMS MATH SUMMER SCHOOL 2010
Summer School - Math Class:
Math
class is being offered to those West Middle School students in 6th
and 7th grades who need and want extra help learning
the skills needed to be a more successful math student. Skills
taught will also focus on preparing students for the ISTEP+ test
by working on the Indiana Math Standards.
Parent's Role:
You, as a parent, are
responsible for your child's transportation to and from West
Middle School each day. Please plan for your child to arrive
early enough to begin class at 8:00 A.M. Students should
plan on attending everyday. Interested students should pick up
an application in the office.

BAND-
Please pick up a
summer calendar from the cafeteria information table. Mr.
Miller is the Band Director.
BASKETBALL-
the Tim Wolf camp will take place Mon.-Fri., June 14-18, boys
entering grades 2-5; and Mon. –Fri., June 21-25, boys entering
grades 6-9. The registration fee is $40, checks payable to Tim
Wolf. Pick up a registration form in the cafeteria, on the
information table for exact camp times.
CHEERLEADERS-
MHS Summer Cheer
Clinic – Tuesday, June 22, through Friday, June 25, 1:00-3:30,
at West gym. The cheer clinic is for students K – 8, cost is
$25.00 per student, payable to Erika Edwards. Registration
forms are available in the cafeteria.
DRAMA SUMMER CAMP-
will be held from Monday through Friday, June 7 - June 18, 10:00
– Noon, High School Auditorium, for 2nd gr. – 8th gr. The cost
is $60.00 and is due on the first day at registration. Students

FOOTBALL CAMP-

GIRLS’ GOLF CLINIC-
Coach Jamie Haywood will visit WMS, Tues. May 11, during
Success, in the Cafeteria to speak to girls interested in

GOLF (Jr.) CLINIC-
Coach Findley invites you to participate: June 10, 17, 24, July

ARTIES BASKETBALL CAMP-

INDIANA SHERIFF’S YOUTH LEADERSHIP CAMP-
The Sheriff’s Youth Leadership Camp is a program provided by the
Indiana Sheriff’s Association for boys and girls who have
completed the 7th or 8th grade and who is
interested in learning more about a possible career in law
enforcement. The second session camp is held at Waycross,
Morgantown, IN (Brown County), Monday, July 6 – Wednesday, July
8, 2009. Information sheets and applications are available in
the cafeteria.
INDIANA
STATE POLICE CAMP-
Three camps available for grades 5-12, summer 2010. Seventh &
Eighth grade students interested please pick up an application
form from Mrs. Weiss in the office.
SOCCER
CAMP-
The Artesian Soccer Camp is being offered to First through
Eighth graders, Monday, June 14 – Thursday, June 17, 10:00 –
Noon, at the Varsity Soccer field, located behind East Middle
School. The cost is $40.00, payable to Lady Artesian Soccer.

SUMMER GAMES AT IUPUI-
Sign up today to attend one, two or all three gaming summer
camps offered by the IU School of Informatics at IUPUI. Camps
are taught by the faculty and open to middle school and high
school students interested in game design, development and fun.
Each camp costs $25 to attend. Descriptions of each camp and
instructions on how to register are available by going to the

weekday, Monday through Thursday.
Paragon
Park by basketball
courts at West Middle School at 4:25 P.M., leave at 4:30 P.M., goes to
the high school and leaves the high school at 4:35 P.M. Take West
Middle School students for Brooklyn to their bus at the high school
Follow Gray St. to
Ohio, turn left and go to 37, cross 37, go through 37 at Burton Lane to
Taco Bell and Southview Drive (if needed). Return to 37 South.
Follow 37 to Legendary Hills, turn back north to motel, turn right and
to Jordan Road, to Liberty Church Road, and back to 37. Turn left
and go to Old 37 (if there are students up toard the forestry, go to
turn-around at State Police home and back to new 37) – if not, go up
hill to Paragon Road. Turn right and take Paragon Road to Paragon.
Stop at the IGA store and Paragon Elementary School. Go back to 67
North, making stops along 67 North where necessary. Go into Wigal
Addition at Hynsdale, on down 67 and back to Martinsville.
Centerton and
Brooklyn
Go to East Middle
School at 4:25 P.M., leave at 4:30 P.M. and go to the high school.
Leave the high school at 4:35 P.M.
Follow Gray Street to
Garfield to the 39 Bypass, turn left to 67 North to Lake Edgewood
through lower road to Wilber Road. Turn right on Wilber Road to 67
North. Go north on 67 (letting off students wherever they live
along the highway), to Mason Lane. Turn onto Mason Lane and go to
Robb Hill Road, turn right to the Shell Station and Quick Mart.
Cross 67 to Centerton School (if no students live in Centerton, leave
this stop off). Go back to 67, north to Brooklyn. Stop at
the 4-way stop in the center of town, at the school. At the 4-way
stop north of the school. Go back to 67, south and stop at
Observatory Hill Road, if needed. Go back to Martinsville.
Directions to other schools
Clark-Pleasant Middle School –
Travel north on St. Rd. 37 to Hwy. 144, turn
right. Travel approximately 2.5 miles to 500 N (Whiteland Rd.), turn
left. Cross St. Rd. 31, turn left to enter the High School parking
lot. Stay left and drive around to the back of the parking lot to the
Middle School.
DANVILLE HIGH SCHOOL-
Travel N. on SR 39 to SR 40, turn left. Turn right onto Washington St.,
turn right on Iowa St., turn left onto US 36/SR 39, turn left onto
Warrior Way.
Jackson Creek, Bloomington –
Travel south on St. Rd. 37 to Tapp Rd (light
past Sam’s Club exit), turn left. Travel to Sares Rd., turn right. The
school is approximately 1.5 miles on the right.
Bedford – Travel
south on S.R. 37 to Bedford to Hwy. 50 (second traffic light) and turn
left. Go east through Bedford and follow Hwy. 50 about 3 to 4 miles
east of Bedford to the school.
Center Grove Middle
North – Travel north on S.R. 37 to Fairview Road and turn right.
Travel on Fairview Road to South Morgantown Road and turn right. The
school is located at 202 North Morgantown Road.
Decatur Township
Middle School – Travel north on S.R. 67 past Decatur Central High
School. At the first stoplight turn right on South High School Road.
The middle school is about ¼ mile on the right side.
Bloomington High
School North – Travel south on S. R. 37 to Acuff Road. Turn left on
Acuff Road and travel to Kinser Pike. Turn right on Kinser Pike and
travel approximately six blocks to the school.
Paul Hadley,
Mooresville – Travel north on S.R. 67 to Indiana Street (by Gray
Brothers’ Cafeteria) and turn left. Drive through town to Carlisle
Street. Turn left on Carlisle Street and Paul Hadley Junior High School
will be on the right side past Mooresville High School.
Owen Valley, Spencer
- Travel South on S. R. 67 to U.S. 231, turn left. Travel to the 4-way
stop in Spencer, turn right, and travel to the ‘Y’. Veer right at the
‘Y’,
Owen Valley High School and
Owen Valley Middle School will be located on the left.
Batchelor Middle
School, Bloomington – Travel south on S.R. 37 to Tapp Road (light
past Sam’s Club exit), turn left. Travel to Rogers St., turn right.
Travel to Gordon Pike (4-way stop), turn right. Batchelor will be on
the right.
Franklin Township
Middle School – Travel north on S.R. 37 to I-465 East. Travel east
on I465 to Emerson Rd., exit and turn right. Travel to Thompson Rd. and
turn left. Travel to S. Franklin Rd. and turn right. The school is at
the corner of Thompson Rd. and Edgewood Rd.
St. Charles,
Bloomington - Travel south on S.R. 37 to the
College/Walnut exit. Travel on Business 37 to the Hwy. 45/46 Bypass and
turn left. Travel past the IU campus to 3rd Street and turn
right. The school is approximately ½ mile down 3rd Street on
the left.
Monrovia Jr.-Sr.
High School – Travel north on S.R. 67 to the
junction of S.R. 39. Turn left, or west, and proceed to Monrovia,
approximately six miles, right side of the road.
