CAREERS EXPLORED AT WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL Career Day 2006 is planned for Wednesday, November 15, 2006. We have invited representatives from a variety of occupations, so our students have a choice in selecting which speakers best match their interests. We will be on a special schedule for Career Day. CHARACTER COUNTS Curriculum Committee decided to again combine our observance of Red Ribbon week with our continuing emphasis on the CHARACTER COUNTS! Pillars of Character and use the theme of “Respect Yourself- Don’t Do Drugs”. To that end, we hope you will again use the “Life is A-MAZ-ing When You’re Drug Free” activities booklet given to you last year. (Teachers never throw anything away – right?) The students at West Middle who were nominated for showing outstanding character in October are: Caleb Parson, Levi Sitler, Nash Sitler, Hailey Currey, Austin Edwards, Cody Galyan, Ethan Minton, Ashley Pyle, Katie Burrin, Victoria Dillon, Chelsey Mullins, Megan Nelson, and Dylan Ostrum. YEARBOOK ORDERS A reminder to students and parents that the deadline for ordering the 2006-2007 West Middle School yearbook is MONDAY, DECEMBER 4th. Please pick up an information sheet in the front office for details. DRUG FREE CLUB The Drug Free Club has made Red Ribbon Week a special event this past week with several activities. Red ribbons with drug free messages were distributed in the library as bookmarks. Students announced ways to say no to drugs, and recited a poem on West News each day. Posters were created by the Drug Free students and hung in the halls. Students stayed after school to help with decorations. The club also sponsored a “Design a Placemat” contest. Winning designs will be displayed in local restaurants. Friday, October 27th is “Red Day.” Students should wear red, declaring their support for a drug free life. Our thanks go to Morgan and Mariah Glidden, Haley Jones, Brianna Stidd, ErikaTaylor, Courtney Peeden, Chelsea Mullins, Syleste Potteroff, James Fox, and Ambra Wolfe for all their help in making Red Ribbon Week a big success. PICTURE RETAKES West Middle School picture retakes will be on Wednesday, November 1st. Picture order forms are available in the front office. FAMILY ACCESS Beginning 2nd trimester, all West Middle school teachers will be posting grades in Family Access on a regular basis. Parents who want to view their child’s grades need a Family Access login code number, which they can obtain by calling 342-6641 and asking for a Family Access login code. DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME West Middle School would like to remind parents and guardians of Daylight Savings Time. On Sunday, October 29, 2006, before going to bed, set the clock back ONE HOUR. (For example, 8:00 goes to 7:00). We would like to see all staff, parents, and students arrive on time Monday, October 30th. AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM THANKS to all the parents who helped with the after school program this fall. Special thanks to those individuals who were in charge of the after school program for the following sports: Football: Mr. & Mrs. Weible, Mr & Mrs. Hopkins- (burgers & brats) Volleyball: Mrs. Bolin West Middle appreciates and thanks every parent who helped in supporting the students with food and supervision before the sporting events.
WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT To be successful in the classroom, students must complete all of the assigned class work and homework. Completing all of the class work and homework in all of the classes, not only will help them learn more while they are at school, but completing class work and homework will also help to instill basic values as a part of the student’s regular schedule. Students will learn to be more responsible, they will learn to be accountable for their work, and they will learn to budget their time effectively. As educators, we are proactive in helping the students to complete their class work and homework, so that we can ultimately help to make them better students and citizens. At West Middle School, each teacher has a different homework policy for his/her class or subject area. All students are being encouraged to complete all of the work that is assigned. We believe that it is important that home and school work together to motivate students in the right direction to complete all schoolwork. SPELL BOWL WRAPS UP Can you spell Nebuchadrezzar? This young Spell Bowl Team competed in the final Regional contest on Tuesday, October 24th. The team placed 3rd in class 2 division. Divisions are determined by school enrollment.
