WMS  Orchestra

The West Middle School Orchestra program, directed by Ms. Shelly Phillips, is taught as a class and open to any student in Grades Six, Seven or Eight.

Any student may start orchestra at any time during middle school, although it is recommended that a student start in sixth grade. Students may choose which instruments they would like to play and instruments may be purchased or rented.

The orchestra has several performances during the year including Fall, Christmas, and Spring concerts as well as opportunities to compete in musical competitions.

7th & 8th Grade Advanced Orchestra Students

Katelynn Brock, Lucas Brock, Faithful Fisher, Brandon Grubbs, Nathaniel Helms, Thomas Janssen, Austin Johnson, Sean Lamar, Ben Sheldon, Brandon Taylor, Mackenzie Thacker, Seth Wilson, and Christopher Wood.

        Wednesday November 5^:  Fall All String Orchestra Concert  (Grades 7 - 12)

Report time: 6:30PM to assigned rooms for tuning and warm-up

Performance time: 7:00PM at the H.S. Auditorium 
 

        Thursday November 6:   Deadline to pay Ms. Phillips for participation in Solo & Ensemble festival ($12 per solo, $6 per ensemble member) 
 

        Monday December 15:    Combined MS Winter Concert for all EMS & WMS Grades 6 - 8

Report time: 6:30PM to assigned room for tuning and warm-up

Performance time: 7:00PM at the WMS Gym 

        Tuesday January 27, 2009:   (Grades 7-12  MS & HS String Orchestras)

                   Chili Supper and Performance

                                                 Location: MHS Cafeteria

                                                 Setup: 3:00 - 5:00PM

                                                 Chili Supper Time: 5:00 - 7:00PM

                                                 Cleanup: 7:00 - 7:30PM 

             Saturday January 31:     ISSMA Instrumental District Solo & Ensemble Contest BNHS

                                                 Times: TBA

            Wednesday February 25:  (East MS Grade 6 ONLY!) Beginner's Informance Concert 7:00PM EMS Gym          

Report time: 6:30PM to choir room for tuning and warm-up

Performance time: 7:00PM

          Saturday February 21:   State Solo & Ensemble Contest  (Only for those going Group 1 at district and earning a Superior)

          Saturday March 21:  (MS 7^th & 8^th Grade Orchestras)

          ISSMA MS Organizational Contest - Location Center Grove  Time: TBA

**Bus will pick-up/return students to MHS (More information will be given before the event)

***We won’t receive performance time and departing time from MS until a few weeks before the event; I’ll send home more information then!

**There may be additional recruitment performance dates during the school day added which you will receive once we know them. 
 
 
 

Note: If a rehearsal has this in front of it ** You may miss one of these but please let Ms.
Phillips know which one you plan on missing in advance!!! If you have a school conflict
with these after school rehearsals please let me know in writing ASAP!
Also please make arrangements to be picked up on time!
