Spelling Bee 2009

The WMS Spelling Bee was held on Thursday, January 29, 2009 in the Room 30.  Interested students took a qualifying test on Friday, January 9.  The top 25 scorers participated in the bee.  Congratulations to winner Stephanie Schneck, who has won the WMS Spelling Bee two years in a row.  Steven Fish is the runner-up.  Stephanie won by correctly spelling the word "herpetology."

Stephanie will compete in the Regional Spelling Bee at the Monroe County Public Library in Bloomington on February 28, 2009 at 10:00 a.m..  She will also receive a one year subscription to Encyclopedia Britannica Student Online Edition (a $69.95 value).  See Ms. Valentine or Mrs. Brinegar or visit www.spellingbee.com for more information.

2008 Results:

On January 29, 2008 West Middle School held the annual Spelling Bee. Stephanie Schneck came in first by correctly spelling the championship word "liverwurst." Jessica Bastin was the runner-up.  Stephanie competed in the Regional Spelling Bee at the Monroe County Public Library on March 1, 2008 at 10:00 a.m.

Students could chose to participate in round one - a written test.  Those who scored 50% or higher qualified for the Spelling Bee.
