Martinsville West Middle School Success Program
Merits:
·
Students are in a routine of
having their homework checked.
·
Students know what is
expected of them.
·
Many aspects of the program
have been adjusted for improvement throughout the last two
years, and the staff has been flexible and open to change
for the sake of improving the Success Program.
·
Parents have given many
positive communications about the Success Program: the
homework check, the follow-up, the communication, the
homework listings, the homework on the website, the homework
e-mail, the Tank idea, the after school program follow-up,
the documentation about the assignments that are missing,
the emphasis on work ethic, and the accountability factor.
·
The communication with home
is often.
·
Though the same students are
reporting to school with missing assignments, they are
receiving attention about “work ethic” and being motivated
to complete the homework.
·
There are fewer missing
assignments in teachers’ grade books.
·
Teachers know that the entire
school staff is prioritizing the completion of homework and
that missing assignments are not accepted as general
practice.
·
Staff members have continued
to assess various components of the Success Program to seek
better efficiency and improved student success in the
classroom.
·
No class is cut short with
news because announcements and news are presented during
Success Class.
·
Students have an opportunity
to work on homework in Success Period.
·
School and home are working
“partners” in students’ success.
·
Documentation of missing
assignments and documentation of dates that letters were
sent home are in place and very valuable in parent
conferences and communication.
·
Fewer F’s earned by students
is a reality.
·
Fewer students earning
multiple F’s is a reality.
Parents, other educators, and community are aware that
learning and student achievement are obvious priorities at
West Middle School.
